Buying batteries

With progress moving forward on the motor/transmission, I took the leap and bought twelve Lifeline GPL-31MT batteries. PowerStride battery had the lowest prices online plus free shipping. They were also gracious enough to give me a 3% discount for ordering 12 batteries. The final cost was $3200.20 and they should be here Friday or Monday. Here's the link to the product.

Let's see if my estimations on the battery rack dimensions turn out to actually fit the batteries...

Wow, things are really moving along! I am looking forward to seeing how everything turns out, especially the range with those batteries.

By the way, are the motor and where it joins the tranny weatherproof, or do they need to be protected from water and dirt somehow?

Hi Corey, The original transmission/engine assembly didn't need any weatherproofing. The only thing I'll probably do is cover the starter hole with a thin plate of aluminum.

What about the motor itself. I noticed that there are vents in the housing - is it fine just like that?

It's probably not a good idea to get a lot of water and road-dirt into the motor vents. I intend to add a splash guard under the car to help keep the grit out. These vents do need to remain open to keep the motor cool. Some people add a forced air fan to keep the motor cool too.

I'm going to try wrapping strips of furnace air filter or car engine air filter around the openings of the motor to keep dirt and spray out of my motor. I never liked the idea of just the screens.
